A high point in the sedan market is the Chevrolet Malibu. In 2007 Chevrolet rolled out an upgraded version of the Malibu with eight versions: LT, LS, LTZ, SS, Maxx LS, Maxx LT, Maxx LTZ, and Maxx SS. Sales for the Malibu, especially the Malibu SS, were brisk during 2007 and 2008. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.
Stop and Go
The restyled Malibu SS is equipped with a 3.9-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The engine is mated to a General Motors four-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2006 version.
The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Malibu uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.
Statistics
The Malibu is 188.30 inches long, 69.90 inches wide, and 57.50 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 106.30 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.
The listed retail price in 2007 (MSRP) was $17,215, with a dealer invoice cost of $16,268. This price is in line with the industry average price for a four-door Sedan.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2007 Malibu is a SFI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.
The Malibu SS received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty four in-city driving and thirty four when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.
Parting Shots
The 2006 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Malibu. The 2007 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Malibu SS will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

Good article. At first I felt like I needed to refute your review of the Chevrolet Malibu, but after further reflection I can see your point of view. Perhaps my personal Malibu SS is an abberation. What is everyone else’s experiences?
