In 2006 Chevrolet released the Malibu LT to the car-buying market. The Malibu came in eight configurations: LS, LT, LTZ, Maxx LS, Maxx LT, Maxx LTZ, SS, and Maxx SS. The LT configuration is powered by the 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 32 highway miles and 24 city. The Malibu competes in the Sedan market segment, in direct competition with Infiniti.
Engine Performance
The Malibu LT is equipped with a General Motors 2.2 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Ecotec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.
Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Malibu has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.
Malibu LT Statistics
The dimensions of the Malibu LT are 69.90 inches wide by 188.30 inches long. It sits a comfortable 57.50 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 106.30 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $16,365 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $15,465. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sedan.
Fuel Efficiency
The 2006 Malibu’s normal fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 16.00 gallons.
The Malibu LT received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty four in-city driving and thirty two when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.
In Summary
The 2006 model year was unsuccessful for the Chevrolet Malibu. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LT version) meant that buyers had several options to choose from..
