Our Review of the 2000 Chevrolet Metro LSi

Chevrolet Metro

There’s been a lot of talk about the Chevrolet Metro for 2000. As a leading car in the hatchback market the Metro (and in this case specically the LSi version) has maintained a good reputation. The 2-door Metro is especially appealing to broad audience, making it a perfect car to help Chevrolet as a brand in general.

Under the Hood

The Metro LSi is equipped with a Suzuki 1.3 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a Suzuki 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

Steering control is handled through a manual-steering rack-style configuration. The Metro comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Metro LSi are 62.60 inches wide by 149.40 inches long. It sits 54.70 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 93.10 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $10,085 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $9,399. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Hatchback.

Fuel Efficiency

For the 2000 Metro, the fuel configuration is a electronic MPI, using gasoline for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 10.30 gallons.

The 2000 Metro gets 34 - 42 miles/gallon on the highway and only 30 - 36 in the city. This is subpar for a hatchback car.

We Think…

The 2000 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet Metro. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LSi version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

No less than 5 of my friends have a Metro. I can’t say more than two of them are happy with it…
