Not Your Father’s Cavalier - The 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS

Chevrolet Cavalier

A high point in the sedan market is the Chevrolet Cavalier. In 2001 Chevrolet rolled out an upgraded version of the Cavalier with three versions: Base, LS, and Z24. Sales for the Cavalier, especially the Cavalier LS, were brisk during 2001 and 2002. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the increased interest.

Under the Hood

Standard equipment in the Cavalier for 2000 and 2001 includes the 2.2 liter engine by General Motors, weighing in at 4 cylinders and eight valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transaxle puts the power of the Vortec engine to the pavement. The has proven to be a popular configuration for the Cavalier.

The Cavalier uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

What We Think of the Chevrolet Cavalier

The 2001 model year was very successful for the Chevrolet Cavalier. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LS version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the Cavalier? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
