There have been several award-winning cars from Chevrolet over the years, including the Chevrolet Cobalt of 2006. There are four trim levels to the Cobalt, including LT, SS, LS, and LTZ. The LTZ version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2005 the popular 2.2 liter Ecotec has made this a popular choice for sedan buyers nationwide.

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LTZ Specs

Chevrolet Cobalt Engine Specs: The Cobalt LTZ comes outfitted with a Ecotec 2.2 liter, 4-cylinder motor that uses 16 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is mated to a four-speed transaxle by General Motors. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for Chevrolet.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Cobalt uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

For the 2006 Cobalt, the fuel configuration is a electronic SFI, using gasoline for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 13.00 gallons.

Statistics

The Cobalt is 180.50 inches long, 67.90 inches wide, and 55.50 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 103.30 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Cobalt is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sedan market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $12,400 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $11,718. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sedan.

MPG Ratings

The 2006 Cobalt gets 32 - 34 miles/gallon on the highway and only 24 - 25 in the city. This is below average for a sedan car.

In 2005 and 2006 the Cobalt LTZ was availble in the exterior colors of Black, Blue Granite Metallic, Laser Blue Metallic, Rally Yellow, Summit White, Sunburst Orange Metallic, Ultra Silver Metallic, and Victory Red. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.

Parting Shots

The 2005 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Cobalt. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Cobalt LTZ will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
