A Better 2000’s Model: The 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24

Chevrolet Cavalier

Chevrolet has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the Chevrolet Cavalier of 2001. There are three trim levels to the Cavalier, including Base, LS, and Z24. The Z24 version is one of the more popular options. Like in 2000 the popular 2.2 liter Vortec has made this a popular choice for coupe buyers around the world.

Chevrolet Cavalier Engine Specs

The restyled Cavalier Z24 is equipped with a General Motors 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 8 valves. The Vortec engine is paired with a General Motors 4-speed transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The Cavalier uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Cavalier Z24 Statistics

The Cavalier is 180.90 inches long, 67.90 inches wide, and 54.70 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 104.10 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $13,360 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $12,492. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2001 Cavalier is a SFI design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 14.30 gallons.

The Cavalier Z24 received a miles-per-gallon rating of 23 - 24 in-city driving and 29 - 34 when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

Conclusion

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 sold well in 2001. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Cavalier.
